As many of you know, Maria suffers from SAD. This was getting worse every year. As I explained to some of our friends, it wasn't the snow or the cold so much as the seemingly endless stretches of cloudy days in a Wisconsin winter.
I can accurately report that Louisiana is a cure for that problem. I log the weather every morning in my journal. The usual entry looks like this.
My doc says I can't wait any longer. As if my ankle fusion and two knee replacements aren't enough, I'm having my varicose veins zipped out. Since there is a recovery period, I'm waiting until I return from my visit to Wisconsin. My doc tells me that once the veins are out, the water retention that has been plaguing me will go away, and I will have "old man bird legs." He's right. I can't wait.
I have to tell all of my family members how much I've enjoyed all of the back-to-school shots I've seen on Facebook. All of them are wonderful, including the historical shots posted by Stacy and Todd, but two shots stood out, and when you see them, I think you'll agree. We can only hope the light in those eyes doesn't dim, and the fire in the belly still burns.
Tonight I look forward to the Packer's last preseason game, which is, in our case, somewhat ironic as it is against the New Orleans Saints. Naturally, all of my neighbors will be pulling for the Saint's. However, in the strange world of sports loyalty, the Saints fans will hope for our Badgers to beat "Hated" Alabama. You might remember the Badgers lost to LSU in their opening game last year. We might have forgotten that, but trust me, no one down here has.
Soon, I will be back in Wisconsin. I look forward to seeing as many of you as I can.
