Move from the Midwest to some nice little village in the Caribbean or Central America. Your Social Security check will go further, you will learn the second language you always vowed you wanted to learn, and you will not freeze your backside off. I know this is the obvious answer. I know that your children and grandchildren will be upset. But it's -20 degrees F in the wind out there today. Folks?
PS: Visiting a warm weather destination in the middle of winter is nice, but it makes the winter seem longer when you return to the tundra. One thing I didn't realize on my trip to Cabo San Lucas this Christmas is I did get a mild sunburn. I was suffering from a burning sensation on my lower leg, ankles, and upper arms. Only when my skin began to peel did I realize that I had overexposed myself.
Wild Turkey Report
Tom, our wild turkey neighbor, not our son, is still fat and happy. He dropped by yesterday, as it is his almost daily habit. Big Tom seemed unconcerned about our cold weather. It brought me to this thought, how are the small animals who do not hibernate or migrate able to survive in this unnatural, extreme, cold?
Training for Twitter.
My son, who lives in Seattle, had a thread going on Facebook on the subject of, how should Liberals respond to the Trump administration and all things Twitter? I got me to thinking about how The Donald sounds in those Twitter messages he likes to pop on us.
Remember the kids at the in-crowd table in the high school? They would dismiss the unwashed masses with their snarky speech snippets. The girl with the retro look was "Soooo yesterday." The guy with the pen protector was "Sooo nerdy." Anyone, who was not them, was a two-word dismissal.
In their opinion, they were the high priests of fashion and culture. They could be know-it-all, arrogant and vain. We've seen this stereotype in hundreds of TV and Film characterizations.
If you read the scripts for these dramatizations, they would sound like Trumps snarky slams at his enemies. Evidently acting like a junior-high-school prima donna is good practice for writing Twitter entries.
Baby, It's Cold Outside
I went out to our driveway to get the Sunday Paper. When I returned, stepping into the back entrance. I realized the temperature change from the outside air (-4 degrees) and inside our house (68 degrees) was 72 degrees. I mention this for my friends and family who don't have this experience might get a feel for it.
What is kind of hard to understand is that we get used to it. We have awakened to below zero temperatures and dangerous will chill readings for almost a week. At these temperatures, you can experience frostbite in a very short time. I always think of the people who don't have shelter. It must be horrible to try and survive in this climate.
I am the Poppa Jeff, at Camp Jeff, which is not in Lambeau Field, but it's close enough to drive to it.
