It's Like The Blind Leading The Naked

A strange parade indeed, if the blind guide the naked down the route. In this case, all the blind need to do is take off the sleeping mask they use to hide what they choose not to see or acknowledge. And the naked? They need only to cloth themselves, but they will not do that.  Because if they do, they become like the rest of us and no one will look at them.

Think of who you are in this tale. You can be our elected leaders, who in an effort to retain their control of government make decisions that might cause harm and even death to us. They do this by blindly rejecting the opinions of their own advisors.

You might be those who are naked, who in this case cloth themselves in automatic weapons, confederate flags, and fascist slogans so they can draw attention to their naked anger at being told what to do. To be fair, not all of this group are racist, nationist, bigots, but these folks, still naked mind you, tend to be lost in the crowd when surrounded by the others.

Or, you may be watching the parade on TV. (As you shelter in place while keeping social distance during these trying times.) For some of us, the price of self-quarantine is mostly paid by the mental discomfort exhibited by loneliness. For others, it is more close to panic as they watch life as they know it fades to black like the last scene in a movie.

They sit in long drive-through lines to be tested for COVID 19 or maybe to get some food from a well-meaning nonprofit, they worry about how long their landlord or bank will put up with their payments in arrears. Can they afford groceries? Maybe the power will be shut off or their car will be repossessed.

What should we do with this mess?

I believe as the government is the last resort should heed the advice of the experts and follow strict guidelines while reopening the economy.

The governments should take care of the frightened citizen at least as well as they dole out welfare checks to the corporations and special interests. This will take the form of a guaranteed monthly income until this mess is straightened out.

$2000/month for an individual $4000.00/month for a family of four. This support should continue until the family is sufficiently employed.

We should guarantee the health of anyone infected. No one should go into debt because of this pandemic. All expenses accrued by treating these patients should be paid for by the Federal Government.

All student loan debt should be frozen. No interest should be accrued until the student is sufficiently employed and able to resume payments.

No funds paid to support industries or corporations within industries should go to management salaries, bonuses, stock buybacks, or deferred benefit programs.

Companies must maintain their employees on their health insurance programs for expenses not occurred by contracting COVID 19.

If the company receives funds to keep its employees on the payroll while not working they must verify payment and dismissals during the program.

Since the welfare of our citizens is vital to our national defense and security these programs should be included in the national defense budget bill.

I'm sure I missed some items of concern, but I think this is a good start.

  1. You are right on target with this.
This is how it SHOULD be approached.
You can't just throw a little "stimulus" money at the problem this time. The glaring problem of the poverty facing millions of ordinary Americans cannot be ignored.

Ring The Bell

It appears there is a tradition in the radiology department at Ascension Hospital that patients, upon completing their course of treatment, ring a bell. ( We know not for whom this bell tolls.) Ring the Bell with My Sweetheart Jeanne. Jeanne drove me to all but two of the appointments. Pam Frautchi took me to the other two. Today, after being zapped thirty-two times, I rang the bell. This begins a roughly one-month recovery period where the effects of the radiation abate and, I'm assured, a return to normalcy occurs. In my case, I anticipate more energy and greater awareness. Books, Books, & More Books I am simultaneously celebrating the end of the third year of volunteering for the All Saints Hunger Book Sale. Next week, we will wrap up the preparation for the sale and open our doors on August 3 for the public. I ran into this humourous but quite accurate cartoon on a T-Shirt that shows most of the volunteer's sentiments at this point. If you think the printed and bound p...
One of my latest efforts. Sketch: The Lady Is Blue Gouache 9 X 12 Reporting: I enjoyed a pleasant evening with my friend Michelle Mooney. I took her out for dinner to celebrate her birthday and to thank her for the many first-rate haircuts she's given me. We were surprised at the number of people who dined alfresco in the balmy night air. Whatever we've done to please Mother Nature, she had deemed acceptable by giving us a shot of summer just when late fall weather was wrapping her fingers around our throat. If I have one complaint about the friendly confines of The County Claire, it's the noise level that makes it difficult to converse. The rumble is an acoustical problem with the customers speaking in normal conversational tones. This is without audible TV showing some game or background music selected by a dance DJ.  I know! We should have eaten outside, where the only noise is the occasional 14 bus snorting by.   Maybe It's Me Since my two soccer teams are not doing...

It's time again.

It started in 2004 when we moved to our condo off Downer in Milwaukee. Then we mover to the Westside of Milwaukee when we rented from Ken Karr, the former landlord, now a current friend on Highland and 29th St. Then we moved to Mandeville Louisiana for a little less than a year. Returning to The Fox River Valley, we rented a home in Fox Crossing, formerly The Town of Menasha. When the tree fell on the roof, and the landlord felt no urgency to fix it, we moved to W. Commercial in Appleton. Here is a shocker. Are you sitting down? We are moving. No, I don't mean off the couch and out to the patio. There are too many damn mosquitoes for that to happen. No, we are packing our stuff, or at least the stuff we unpacked from the last move and moving to a home Maria purchased on Mason and Glendale in Appleton. Let me unpack that last sentence (pun planned for). We are moving at approximately the end of September to a house. The house has been in t...
