What If...?
This column was inspired by yet another highly rated Presidential Prospect from what is left of the Republican Party making a huge mistake. Ted, "My dad didn't kill Kennedy no matter what Trump says" Cruz decided that while first responders were dealing with what has turned out to be the worst disaster in Texas history, he would ease their burden by evacuating his family to Mexico without their assistance. His needs being met, they could concentrate on other less able citizens. Good on him, Right?
But what if, when he got to Mexican customs officials in Cancun, they detained him because of suspicious activities he was involved in during the insurrection on January 6th.
Countering their claim, Cruz demands asylum because he feared for his and his family's lives if forced to return to Texas. While pondering this question, Mexican officials interned Cruz and his wife in a wire-fenced temporary facility and separated his two daughters from their parents.
After smelling the salt air blowing off the gulf but not being able to walk barefoot in the sand with a rum drink in his hand, Curz offers to voluntarily return to Texas. His request is granted; however, he is informed that regrettably, they have lost his two daughters.
Moving on:
This week, I got an email giving me a link to a site where I could make an appointment to get my first COVID vaccination and an appointment for my second shot.
This was certainly good news. I had signed up on the county site and was informed that my primary physician would contact me with information on how to get an appointment for my shot. I called my physician and got a recorded message that Columbia/ St. Marys/Ascension (These hyphenated families are getting cumbersome) would contact me.
The bad news. The email I got was from my former primary physician in the Fox Valley. Because I don't drive anymore and I'm not really sure about its legality, I have concerns about going to Appleton to get immunity from COVID.
There is the bus ride from Milwaukee to Appleton. The buses are usually over half full, which defies self-distancing protocol. Then I'd have to deal with a hotel room, uber rides, and mixing with strangers in restaurants and bus terminals.
The question, What if, instead of immunity from COVID, I contract it?
What if...
These are Texans in search of clean water and free food?
