Baby It's Cold Outside

Batten down the hatches. The winds blew, the snow flew and our love affair with the long, warm fall died like the winter sunset on a partly cloudy skyline. In other words, it's cold out there brother.

Maria and I have already attended an open house that required us to sing Christmas songs. Char and Bob Van Astin hosted a mob of friends that is enviable. Eclectic is one word that comes to mind. The singing was average, but when you consider the age and diversity of the crowd that's a compliment. I certainly can't sing like I did when I was younger

The accompaniment was outstanding. Bob's son, Leo played the carols like the pro he is. His Mozart performance was awesome.

As I announced earlier, I'm cancer free. The growth on my face was successfully removed , the stitches have been taken out, and I'm told that I won't even see the scar in a couple of weeks. I will be happy as soon as I can get a clean shave in that area. I plan on using a face lotion with a 30 SPC as aftershave. This is what I should have been doing along. If I had done this, I probably wouldn't have acquired the cancerous growth in the first place.

I am trying to learn how to work in the blog site cum website design software known as Word Press. Word Press is a free, with some limits, open source program. This means that anybody can improve the software by submitting the code and having it approved.

What does this mean to a user like me? It means that buying the book, "Word Press for Dummies" is stupid. Almost everything that is in the book will be changed before they edit and print the damn thing. The same goes for online instruction. (I used Lynda.com)

 I particularly enjoy the print/on screen instructor referring to a screen and a link command that doesn't look anything like my screen. This software is the product of some really smart people that write code in their sleep. My guess is they like a lot of technical people make huge assumptions about the knowledge of people that will be using their creation.

My goal is to learn enough to help my client run the website they inherited. The guy who created this site is long gone and my client has neither the funds or the inclination to redesign the site in a different format.

As we look forward to celebrating the Pride we have in our Gay population, (Yeah, I couldn't resist the pun.) I'm pleased to report that diversity in the mix of our residents here in the Fox River Valley continues to surprise me. Behind them was a Latino couple. At the end of the line, behind was an Asian fellow with three kids. We represented the WASP's. A rustle in the hustings

I am trying to stay away from politics on my blog. I know that some of my intended readers do not share my feelings. As well, I don't entice dialogue. Occasionally my readers will address something I've written about. For the most part, they are merely saying something like, "Oh yeah, I felt that way too," regarding some experience, that I related. However, I have to share these particular feelings about the new Ryan Healthcare proposal that is sailing through the House of Representatives. Market-driven healthcare provision: This concept proposes that if put on the free market health care insurance will become more affordable. The theory is there will be competition among insurers to gain market share and lowering the prices will be a possible outcome. I Can See The End Of The Road

 Pam and I have been working from home on the line by line edit of my novel 26 Women . When we work, she is at home looking at the latest draft I've emailed her and I'm at home looking at the same version.  It's like being back in one of Marshall Cook's gatherings. Marshall ran the Writers Institute in Madison for a number of years. Participants would come with a short piece and exchange them with the others. He would moderate a discussion of the entries that would allow the writers to get input on their work. It's always interesting how readers will misunderstand the brilliance of your writing. Or put another way, how your writing will defy explanation.  Pam will ask me some form of the question, "What are you trying to say here?" We usually ended up rewriting a word, sentence, or paragraph. Only occasionally, the work would stand scrutiny and remain unchanged. I also seem to go into a coma using commas.
