Two of The 120 Days of Possible Good Weather in Wisconsin

This last weekend we had undoubtedly the two nicest summer days we ever get during July in Wisconsin. Warm sunshine, low humidity, and a cool breeze all added to something like perfection. I can attest that the traffic on Badger Ave, here in Appleton, indicated that every Harley was on the road. And likewise for Bicycles and mopeds.
We kind of hung close to home, but I'm sure anyone with the freedom to chose, selected Outdoors on the options panel. This has been a mild summer. Most of us enjoy the every three or four-day rain we've been getting since it means we don't have to water our lawn.
Unfortunately, my raspberries have cropped out, but they were good while they lasted. Next year, I've been told, by the lady of the castle, we will have raised beds that will provide a bounty of herbs, vegetables, and decorative flowers. We will see.

Time draws nigh for our departure for the "Left Coast." My enthusiasm is dampened somewhat because of the bevy of news reports regarding the lack of satisfaction travelers have with the airlines. One of these appeared on the new Megan Kelly NBC competition with 60 Minutes. (More about that shortly.)
In this report, some factors enter into the general dissatisfaction with airline travel. If we want timeline the beginning of the demise of the high water mark for services in airplanes, like the use of real silverware and cloth napkins, served with tolerable food, it started with deregulation of the industry during, this surprised me, the Carter Administration.
The race to the bottom, fueled by the search for the "lowest price," brought us smaller seats, no meals, and overbooking. Any one of these would be intolerable, but each generation the absence of these once expected services becomes the new normal.
Who is the most despised airline in business? Who nickel dimes its passengers in and out of the cabin? One airline holds the number one spot in both categories and also is the most profitable airline. Spirit. Guess who we are flying with? I let you know how it goes.

Megan Kelly has the 6:00 pm Sunday slot, which means she is opposite 60 Minutes. Well not exactly. Right now 60 Minutes is mostly reruns. So those of us that sit religiously every Sunday evening at 6:00 pm, or whenever NFL football's late game concludes, where we will see 60 minutes it's entirety immediately following the conclusion of the game or later on the west coast, saw the broadcast at one time or another.
We like, I'm sure many others, are giving Megan a look. She famously left Fox News for many reasons. One of which may or may not have been to avoid being groped by Rodger Ailes. At any rate, she is smart, intelligent and a good interviewer. She doesn't have to appear in every frame of anything that looks like a news program, like someone from CBS, which I won't name, but his last name rhymes with Telly.
The stories have been mostly newsworthy. I tend to downgrade any "News Program" which contains too much celebrity content, particularly when they are pushing their new book, film or TV series. She did a hilarious interview (?) with Ricky Gervais this last Sunday evening. But then if you can't conduct a fun interview with him you shouldn't pin the mike to your shirt.
Only when 60 minutes tee's it up with their version of first run material will we know how effective this will be for NBC. Megan has enough to contend with overcoming the multigeneration popularity of 60 Minutes. If she kicks their backside when football starts, it will be amazing. Frankly, there is another problem. In our area, she competes with the Simpson's and Bob's Burgers.

Ring The Bell

It appears there is a tradition in the radiology department at Ascension Hospital that patients, upon completing their course of treatment, ring a bell. ( We know not for whom this bell tolls.) Ring the Bell with My Sweetheart Jeanne. Jeanne drove me to all but two of the appointments. Pam Frautchi took me to the other two. Today, after being zapped thirty-two times, I rang the bell. This begins a roughly one-month recovery period where the effects of the radiation abate and, I'm assured, a return to normalcy occurs. In my case, I anticipate more energy and greater awareness. Books, Books, & More Books I am simultaneously celebrating the end of the third year of volunteering for the All Saints Hunger Book Sale. Next week, we will wrap up the preparation for the sale and open our doors on August 3 for the public. I ran into this humourous but quite accurate cartoon on a T-Shirt that shows most of the volunteer's sentiments at this point. If you think the printed and bound p...

It's time again.

It started in 2004 when we moved to our condo off Downer in Milwaukee. Then we mover to the Westside of Milwaukee when we rented from Ken Karr, the former landlord, now a current friend on Highland and 29th St. Then we moved to Mandeville Louisiana for a little less than a year. Returning to The Fox River Valley, we rented a home in Fox Crossing, formerly The Town of Menasha. When the tree fell on the roof, and the landlord felt no urgency to fix it, we moved to W. Commercial in Appleton. Here is a shocker. Are you sitting down? We are moving. No, I don't mean off the couch and out to the patio. There are too many damn mosquitoes for that to happen. No, we are packing our stuff, or at least the stuff we unpacked from the last move and moving to a home Maria purchased on Mason and Glendale in Appleton. Let me unpack that last sentence (pun planned for). We are moving at approximately the end of September to a house. The house has been in t...

Latest News From The City On The Inland Sea

Many of us in Milwaukee have put away the black armbands recognizing our grief for the Brewer's early exit from the playoffs. The Packers are going through their season, letting Jordan Love grow into the vacancy left by the departure of Aaron Rodgers. The Milwaukee Bucks are daring anyone to try and take this year's championship away from them. Marquette, UWM, and the Badgers have an abundance of hope. Marquette, however, has the talent. My Treatments We are at a checkpoint. Along with my immunotherapy next Monday, I'm having a scan. It's felt that my body has shed enough radiation so we can get a look at the infected area and evaluate the progress. Watch this space. I am feeling well. I had little reaction to the second round of the Keytruda and don't anticipate any from the next injection. I went to Walgreens to get my Flu shot and my COVID booster. Remember when we used to go to the drugstore because they had a soda fountain. Wanderings Jeanne and I decided to g...
